Without another word, I put the gear in and drove off.

The midnight store was hard to find, if you didn’t know about it. There were no signs indicating its nature of business. There were no advertisements plastered on the walls. There were no big open windows to attract curious passerbys.

Nothing but a big grey unit and a windowless door.

The only thing hinting at any kind of life was the fact that the parking lot outside was filled with cars.

I pulled into an open space, next to a Honda Civic, taking care not to accidentally clip it with my Transporter van.
